Alan H. Wilberding, age 63, of Sun Prairie, formerly of Madison, passed away on Friday, November 7, 1997 surrounded by his family. Alan had a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Alan was born in Dubuque, IA on July 16, 1934 and was the son of Henry and Mildred (Schaan) Wilberding. He and his wife, the former Joan Moran were married on February 6, 1954 and spent 43 wonderful years together. Alan worked for Trausch Baking Co. in Dubuque until 1978, when he accepted the position of Vice President and General Manager of Dick Brothers Bakery in Manitowoc, and later, Gardner Baking Co. of Madison and Eau Claire. He then spent three years in Yarmouth, ME, where he served as Vice President of Nissen Baking Co. He returned to the Madison area in 1993, where he worked for Prudential Insurance until his retirement in August of 1996. He was a current member of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church in Sun Prairie. He enjoyed being active in the churches and communities that he was a part of. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Joan of Sun Prairie; three sons, Alan Wilberding of Phoenix, AZ, Bill (Jill) Wilberding of Davenport, IA and Paul (Sue) Wilberding of Madison; six daughters, Mary (Steve) Lombardi of New Brighton, MN, Jane (Jim) Kaderabek of Manitowoc, Ann (Dan) Schubert of Beaver Dam, Janet (Jim) Pliner of Madison, Joan (David) Unmacht of Verona and Amy Wilberding of Sun Prairie; sixteen grandchildren; two sisters, Carol (Dave) Welu and Sally (Jack) Parker of Dubuque; four sisters-in-law, Janet (Joe) Arend of Dubuque, Kathleen Murphy of Bloomington, MN, Pat (Rolleigh) Peterson of Louisville, KY and Peggy (Bill) Roberts of Edina, MN. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church in Sun Prairie. Father Larry Bakke will officiate with burial in Sacred Hearts Catholic Cemetery in Sun Prairie. Friends may call on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Cress Funeral Home in Sun Prairie. Memorials may be made to the family to be used for the church. Special thanks to the staff of the Trauma and Life Support Center of UW Hospital for their kindness and compassion. WSJ 11/9/1997
