Louise M. Hart, 94
November 04, 2009

Louise M. Hart, 94, of East Jordan, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan.

She was born on Jan. 26, 1915, in Tonawanda, N.Y., the daughter of Arthur B. and Esther (Spaeth) Wolf. Growing up, she always loved music and children, so after high school she attended Wheelock School in Boston and later the National College of Education in Evanston, Ill., where she graduated with a bachelor of education degree in 1940.

In 1941, she moved to East Jordan, where she taught kindergarten for five years.

In 1945, she met Charles Hart and they were married in East Jordan on Dec. 1, 1945.

Louise discontinued full-time teaching to raise her five children. Years later, she continued her "love of teaching," working as a substitute teacher.

Louise loved singing and her church. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the church choir and the St. Anne's Guild. She made home Communion calls and in 1984 she began to volunteer at Grandvue Medical Care Facility assisting the Catholic residents to attend Friday Mass.
She had been honored for her 50 years of active participation in the Michigan Family Community Education Extension Organization. She also enjoyed swimming, walking and knitting. She made countless afghan blankets for family members and hundreds of pairs of mittens for her church.

She is survived by five children, Robert (Suzanne) Hart of North Tonawanda, N.Y., Mary Jane (Glen) Segraves of East Jordan, Anne (William) Olstrom of East Jordan, David Hart of Las Vegas and Peter (Arys) Hart of Newport News, Va.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Frances Wolf of Hampton, Va.; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husand; her parents; three brothers, Ralph, Robert and Edmond "Bud" Wolf; and one sister, E. Jane Wolf.

A Mass will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Duane Wachowiak officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery in East Jordan.

The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to Grandvue Medical Care Facility, 1728 S. Peninsula Road, East Jordan, Mich. 49727.
