Obituary from HL Herald - Elroy August Diers, age 85, of Howard Lake, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004 at the Buffalo Hospital.

He was born June 18, 1919 in Victor Township, Wright County, the son of Fred and Mollie Fiedler Diers.

Elroy was baptized July 20, 1919 at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake by the Rev. A. L. Oetjen. He was also instructed in the Lutheran catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith April 9, 1933 at the same church by the Rev. C.G. Seltz.

Elroy and Evelyn (Birkholz) Diers were joined in holy marriage Sept. 15, 1939, at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake by the Rev. E. N. Seltz. God blessed their marriage with four children.

Elroy and Evelyn engaged in dairy farming in Victor Township for many years.

Elroy was a faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Evelyn Diers; children: Stanley (Sharon) Diers, and Ralph (Nancy) Diers, all of Howard Lake, Joel (Sylvia) Diers of Maple Lake, and Sandra Diers of Howard Lake; 12 grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Elroy was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mollie Diers; a brother, Vernon Diers; and a daughter-in-Law, Geneva Diers.

Funeral services were Monday, Aug. 9 at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. The Revs. Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld officiated. Interment followed at the Howard Lake Cemetery.

Nancy Butterfass was the organist for the funeral service. Marge Stueven was the soloist and she sang "In the Garden." "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me," "Blest Be the Tie That Binds," and "Abide with Me" were sung as congregational hymns.

Friends called Sunday, Aug. 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. A prayer service was at 7 p.m.

Casketbearers were Elroy's six grandsons: Tom Diers, Alan Diers, Phillip Diers, Chad Burau, Troy Burau, and Ross Burau.
