Thomas Weldon Morgenroth, 82, of Port Lavaca, passed away Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008. He was born in Long Mott to the late James F. and Allie B. Evans Morgenroth.

During WWII, he served his country as a Merchant Marine stationed in the South Pacific for 18 months. He was in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was discharged, SFC 4th Infantry Combat Engineers. Mr. Morgenroth was very active in Calhoun County. He was a member of Calhoun County Farm Bureau, member of Calhoun County Youth Rodeo Association, and held every office including president from 1959-1960. He was chairman of the board of Two-Mile Water Drainage District and Sunday school superintendent of Long Mott Baptist Church in Long Mott. He was a past member of Seadrift Lions Club, member of Moreman Community Gin Association, and from 1947 to 1961, he was an avid jackpot calf roper and horse trainer. Mr. Morgenroth was a farmer and stockman and he retired in 2001.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Sramek Morgenroth of Port Lavaca; daughter, Nelwyn Boykin and husband Ken of Starks, La., step-daughter, Sherrlyn Clanton and companion Chuck Carter of Victoria; son, Dardon Morgenroth and wife Liz of Victoria; sister, Evelyn Robinson of Corpus Christi; one granddaughter, Sunnie Boykin; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today, Nov. 18, 2008 at Grace Funeral Chapel in Port Lavaca. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008 at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery in Port Lavaca with Pastor David Bush officiating.

Pallbearers are Donald Wehmeyer, Stanley Dierlam, Walter Dierlam, James Morgenroth, Jerry Hroch, and Mike Campbell.

Honorary pallbearers are Howard Neill, Willet Neill, N.B. Matson, Don McMahon, John Shaw Sr., Lewis Neill, Harold Evans, and the Wagon Train Coffee Group.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Riedel and the staff at Detar Hospital.
