Mr. Moyers was born Oct. 11, 1919, in Franklin and was a son of the late Grover and Effie Simmons Moyers.
He attended school in Franklin and lived in Woodbridge, VA, before moving to Harrisonburg, VA, in 1954. He was a serviceman for AmeriGas for 31 years and was self-employed for 17 years before retiring in 1985.
Mr. Moyers was a member of the Brethren Church and the American Rifleman's Association. He was the recipient of an honorary award from the Harrisonburg Lions Club.
On Nov. 3, 1939, he married the former Iva Thompson, who preceded him in death Feb. 17, 2000.
He is survived by a daughter, Linda Gainer of Keezletown, VA; three sons, Ray E. Moyers of Linville, VA, Ronald S. Moyers of McGaheysville, VA, and Johnny A. Moyers of Harrisonburg, VA; a brother, Otis Moyers of Hinton, VA; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a number a nieces and nephews.
