Mildred was married to Felix Edgar Carter for 31 years. They were blessed with four children, Franceal Carter Machacek and Gerald Lee Carter of Port Lavaca, Leon Carter of Goliad and Donnie Ray Carter of Prineville, Ore..
Mildred was a farmer-rancher's wife in Calhoun and Gonzales counties for 37 years. She was widowed in 1975 and returned to Calhoun County where she was active in church visitation. Mildred was known for many years as the "donut lady" because she would visit many of the residents in the local nursing home and bring them a sweet and a smile.
She was a widow for 10 years before she married William E. "Bill" Summers in 1985. Mildred loved the Lord and was a member of Alamo Heights Baptist Church and a previous member of First Baptist Church of Port Lavaca for 50 years. Her favorite scripture was John 3:16. She had a great love for her children and enjoyed being with them. She was full of life, fun, wisdom and an inspiration to all who knew her.
Mildred was preceded in death by brothers, J.E. and J.P. Nunley and husband Edgar Carter.
Mildred is survived by her husband Bill Summers; her children; eight grandchildren, Mike Machacek, Kim Griffith, Jennifer Maddux, Rusty Carter, Charlene Crober, Missy, Karen, and Scott Carter; 17 great-grandchildren, Devon and Cameron Machacek, Jonathon, Hailey and Kayla Griffith, Carter and Gracen Maddux, Cody, Connor, Colton and Caitlin Carter, Daniel and Hunter Crober, Christian Graham, Kaitlynn Dyer, and Austin, Tyler and Blake Carter; and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Grace Funeral Chapel, (Alamo Heights Baptist Church), 1604 W. Austin, in Port Lavaca. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2007 at the chapel with the Rev. Tim Smith officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers are Michael Machacek, Rusty Carter, Missy Carter, Kenneth Moehnke, Charlene Crober, and Bill Crober.
