Obituary from HL Herald - Lillian Rose Moorhead, age 90 of Howard Lake, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Center; having lived into the first hour of the 21st Century.
Lillian was born May 25, 1910, in Middleville Township, Wright County, Minn., the youngest daughter of Peter and Anna (Herbst) Claessen.
A lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Waverly, Lillian was baptized June 10, 1910, by the Rev. P. J. Lucey; admitted to the eucharistic table May 22, 1920; and confirmed June 9, 1924, by the Archbishop Vincent Estrade.
Lillian attended the Highland Elementary School and graduated from St. Mary's High School, Waverly.
She married Claude Allen Moorhead Oct. 11, 1936. After their marriage, Lillian and Claude were residents of Howard Lake, where Claude owned automobile and farm implement businesses.
In addition to being involved in her church, Lillian was active in the Library Club, the Royal Neighbors, Girl Scouts, and other community activities.
Throughout her life, Lillian enjoyed her pets. In some ways, her life was measured by the companionship of a dog or cat: Boots, Buster, Whiskers. She spoke often with affection about her childhood pet pig, Venus, as well as a pet goose and a pet rooster. In the fullness of time, may she enjoy them once again in paradise.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband Claude in 1976; her parents, Peter and Anna Claessen; sisters, Ida Claessen, Irene (Mrs. Wilbur) Keller; and Adelaide (Mrs. Charles) Reardon; and a brother, Paul Claessen.
She is survived by her children, Barry and companion, Peter Mazar, of Elmwood Park, Ill., Brian and wife, Carol, of Howard Lake; and Joan and husband, Michael Holtz, of Robbinsdale; grandchildren, Kyle Moorhead and wife, Connie, of New Hope, Chrisopher Holtz of Minnetonka, and Andrew Holtz of Robbinsdale; and great-grandchildren, Marshall and Madison.
Lillian is further survived by a sister, Sr. M. Philomene (Agnes) Claessen, RGS of Ft. Thomas, Ken.; a sister-in-law, Laura (Paul) Claessen of Howard Lake; many beloved nieces and nephews; step-grandchildren, Bret (Christine) Stueven, Chad (Kristal) Stueven, and Jaime Stueven; and step-great-grandchildren, Lindsay, Kayla, Loren, Megan, and Wyatt.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday, Jan. 4, at St. Mary's Church, Waverly, with the Rev. Frank Wampach presiding. Music was provided by Therese Borrell, Patricia Munson, and the St. Mary's Choir. She was laid to rest in the Howard Lake Cemetery.
