Mrs J. NIEHAUS DEAD
Aged Pioneer Died Monday At Ripe Old Age
Was Eighty-Seven Years of Age At Time of Death, Funeral Wednesday Morning

Grandma Niehaus died at her home south of town Monday morning after a short illness at the ripe age of 87 years and four days. The deceased was one of the oldest and most respected residents of the community. She came to the country when it still was a wilderness, and shared the life of the early pioneers. She was respected and beloved by a large circle of friends.

Angela Moller was born at Mollbergen, Germany, on Jan. 22, 1826. Here she grew to womanhood and at the age of 23 came to this country. The trip required seven weeks and three days, after which she landed at New Orleans. From New Orleans she went by boat to Cincinnati, the trip requiring two weeks and three days. On the trip cholera broke out but she escaped the disease. After a week in Cincinnati she came with others to Teutopolis, making the trip by wagon. On July 22, 1850, she was united in marriage to Joseph Niehaus, the ceremony being performed by Rev Father Kunster in the Church now standing, which was then being built. To this union eight children were born, two of whom are now living, Joseph and Mrs B. Bruver. Her husband died on April 14, 1873, after which she remained on the farm with her children, the last years, her daughter, Mrs Bruver and husband living with her. She is survived by many grandchildren and other relatives.

The funeral took place Wednesday morning from the Catholic Church and the remains were followed to their last resting place by a large concourse of people.
