AURORA - Mr. Earl Wayne Bonner Jr., age 84, a resident of 1318 Bonnerton Road, Aurora, NC, died at home on Wednesday, December 15, 2010.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 19, 2010 at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home in Washington officiated by the Rev. John W. Yount. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery with Masonic Rites officiated by Charles Wethington.

Wayne Sawyer, Marvin Sartin, Gene Williamson, Garland Lewis, Charles Smith and Lewis Leaming will serve as pallbearers. Jeffrey W. Sawyer, Doug Niethammer, Andy Dixon, Sid Cayton, Ken Sadler and Zack Mixon will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Bonner was born in Beaufort County on July 1, 1926, son of the late Earl Wayne Bonner Sr. and Edna Hope Hardy Bonner. He was a graduate of Aurora High School and graduated from Louisburg College and N.C. State University. Mr. Bonner served his country in the United States Navy as a Seabee. On June 14, 1951, he married the former Helen Gray Ayscue, who survives.

Mr. Bonner was an engineer with the NC Department of Transportation, Director of Public Works with the City of Washington and retired as the county engineer of Beaufort County. He was a member of Aurora United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge of Aurora # 300. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, Shriner and one of the original Roadrunners.

Mr. Bonner was an avid hunter, pilot and friend to all. He received the prestigious Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award in 2008.

In addition to his wife, Helen of the home, he is survived by his son: Carl F. Bonner and wife, Julia of Wilson, his brother: Billy Bonner and wife, Dorothy of Edward; his sister: Loyce Moore of New Bern and two grandchildren: Dantzler Bonner and Kelcey Bonner and other extended family.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and other times at the home.
