Francis Paul Goertz Dec. 25, 1924 - Dec. 17, 2007 Francis Goertz (Paw Paw), age
82, passed peacefully from this earth surrounded by all his children. He was
preceded in death by his father (Joe B.), his mother (Anna), his brother
(Raymond), and three infant children. Francis was born in Rockne, Texas on
Christmas Day. He attended Tarleton State University and Texas A&M University.
He served in the US Army Air Force in World War II as a bombardier, and then
worked for 38 years with the Texas Highway Department as a highway engineer and
surveyor. Francis was a devout Catholic and a loving and devoted father and
grandfather. After his eight-hour day at the highway department, he would put in
extra time picking pecans, surveying, selling insurance, and chopping wood, even
on weekends. He loved gardening, woodworking, Chinese pugs, lotto scratch-offs,
dominoes, listening to Paul Harvey, trips to Coushatta, and his daily crossword
puzzle, but his favorite moments were spent with his family. Francis is survived
by his 10 sons and daughters: Frankie Schroeder of Austin (Ken), Rose Mary
Whiteaker of Bastrop (Bo), Donna Friske of Rockne, David Goertz of Bastrop
(Ann), Vincent Goertz of Rockne, Connie Davila of Bishop (Albert), Edith Goertz
of Bastrop, George Goertz of Bastrop (Cindy), Joe Goertz of Bastrop (Stephanie),
and Neil Goertz of Rockne (Kristi). He is survived by 16 grandchildren: Kim
Hibbs (Dempsey), Gregory Friske (Melanie), Chris (Ellen), Mike, and Angela
Davila, Kristen Alexandrov (Alex), Jessica Goertz, Haley and MaKayla Goertz,
Amanda and Taylor Goertz, Katelyn and Kyle Goertz, Candy Townsend (Bubba), Dana
Platt (Colin), and Mike Crutcher. He is also survived by six
great-grandchildren: Kade and Reagan Hibbs, Wyatt Davila, Tyler and Trey
Townsend, and Olivia Platt. His surviving brothers and sisters are Thomas Goertz
of Rockne, Bernard Goertz of Rockne, Doris Cook of Schertz, Anita Sanders of
Cedar Creek, and Teresa Goertz of Austin. He is also survived by his special
friend, Verdie Jackson, and numerous other friends, too many to mention.
