William John "Bill" Werder, of Gettysburg, husband of 52 years and father of seven children, veteran of WWII and a cancer survivor, passed away peacefully December 29, 2010.

Born in East Orange, NJ, February 7,1926, he was the son of Barbara and William Henry and younger brother of Walter.

He graduated from Rutgers College of Engineering in 1951 and later received his MS from NJIT.

In 1958, Bill married Mary Virginia "Ginny" Pfaff.

He worked at PSE&G as a civil engineer until retiring in 1988.

An avid tennis player, Bill made sure all his children learned the sport he loved. After raising the family in New Providence, he and Ginny moved to Vermont where he enjoyed playing golf, tennis and then paddle tennis in the winter. In 2007 they moved to Gettysburg to be closer to family.

Bill is survived by wife Virginia Werder of Gettysburg; son Jack Werder and wife Cathy of Raleigh, NC; son Bill Werder and wife Angela of Ijamsville, MD; son Jim Werder and wife Patricia of West Windsor, NJ; son Craig Werder and wife Allison of Chatham, NJ; son Kurt Werder and wife Kristin of Pleasanton, CA; daughter Susan Werder of Seattle, WA; daughter Liz Amerault and husband Brian of Sykesville, MD; his twelve loving grandchildren and brother Walter Werder and wife Peggy of Parsippany, NJ.

Interment: St. Teresa's Cemetery.
