GRANDMA BERNADINE UPTMOR

At the Home of Her Daughter, Mrs Engbring, in Effingham. Funeral Friday Morning.

Mrs. Bernadine Uptmor nee Sudkamp, aged 90 years,5 months and 2 days passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Engbring at Effingham about 7 o’clock Sunday morning, May 24, 1936. She had suffered a stroke of paralysis about a week previous.

Funeral services will be held at 9 ’clock Friday morning at St. Francis catholic church in this village of which the deceased was a faithful member throughout her life, having been affiliated with the Third Order and also the Married Ladies Sodality. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery here.

Bernadine the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johann Sudkamp was born in Dinklage, Oldenburg, Germany. She married Clem Uptmor. They were joined in holy Matrimony on April 30, 1868. To their union eleven children were born, the surviving children are one son: Clem Uptmor of Teutopolis and; two daughters; Mrs. John (Mary) Engbring of Effingham and Mrs. Ed T (Helen) Egan of San Diego, California. Her husband died on April 25, 1906.

Two daughters: Mrs. Frank (Theresa) Schultz died February, 18, 1929 at Decatur, Ill and Ven Sr. M. Juliana (Catherine) a nun in the Precious Blood Order, died April 13, 1911 at O'Fallon. Six children died in infancy.

Eleven-grandchildren are also left to mourn their loss namely: Mrs. Ed Poeppelmeyer of Effingham; Mrs Fred Letot and Miss Clara Schultz of San Diego, California; Lawrence, Edwin and Joseph Schultz, of Decatur, Ill; Clemens, Russel, Raymond, Eugene and Catherine Uptmor of Teutopolis. Three great-grandchildren: James, Adela and Dorothy Poeppelmeyer of Effingham also survive.

Mrs. Uptmor came to America from Germany when a small child. Since the death of her husband she made her home principally in Teutopolis with her son Clemens and more recently with her daughter Mrs Engbring at Effingham. Several years ago she lived with her daughter Mrs. Ed Egan in San Diego, California for a number of years. She had always enjoyed exceptional good health for her age but for the past twenty-five years her sense of hearing failed.
