Lulu Guhlke , 73, of Sleepy Eye, died on Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

Visitation will be at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye, on Friday, June 18, 2004, from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church on Saturday June 19, 2004 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Service will be held at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye on Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 3 p.m. The Clergy will be Pastor Timothy Grams. Interment is in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye

Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.

Lulu was born on September 2, 1930, in Cottonwood County, the daughter of Martin Phillip and Marie Caroline (Weber) Kessler.

Lulu attended Zion Lutheran School for eight years and then graduated from Sanborn High School in 1948. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Zion Lutheran Church in Sanborn. After graduation she moved to Sleepy Eye and worked for Pietrus for five years. She married Arnold Guhlke on August 25, 1951 and the couple lived in Sleepy Eye. In 1958 they moved to a farm north of Sleepy Eye. While Lulu was on the farm she enjoyed raising her children and helping Arnold. She worked for AUI from 1970-1990 on a part-time basis. Arnold and Lulu retired from farming and moved in to Sleepy Eye in 2001. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye. Lulu enjoyed working at church and was a member of the Ladies Aid serving as treasurer.

She also loved music, travel, playing cards and dominos, reading and shuffleboard while in Mesa, AZ. Arnold and Lulu have gone to Mesa since 1994.

She is survived by her children; Douglas and wife, Bonnie Guhlke of Sioux Falls, S.D., Greg and wife, Sandy Guhlke of North Mankato, Keith and wife, Jill Guhlke of Mankato, Julie Ibberson of Sleepy Eye; 8 grandchildren; Alan and Amanda Guhlke, Jacquelyn and Paul Ibberson, Elizabeth and Denise Guhlke and Macaulay and Madison Guhlke, brothers, Donald and wife, Dee Kessler of Nicollet, Dennis and wife, Rita Kessler of Granite Falls, Warren and wife, Jan Kessler of Grimes, Iowa, sister, Doris and husband, Rudy Vanden Broek of Middle Town, Calif. and Arizona friends and lifelong friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Vernon Kessler and grandson, Matthew Guhlke.
