Father: Albert Henry Minor
Mother: Anna Frieda Marie Vogel
Spouse: Bernard Carlyle Hovig
Marriage: October 15, 1938
Sara Hovig, 92, of Caldwell formerly of Nampa, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006, at her daughter's home.
Sara was born in Fairmont, Minn., on Oct 16, 1914, to Albert and Anna Minor. She grew up with eight siblings. Mom met and married her husband, Carlyle Hovig, in Long Beach, Calif., October 1937, where he was serving in the US Navy. They resided in Long Beach, Valley Center and Escondido, Calif., until 1949 when they moved to New Richland, Minn. There they raised their three daughters, Kaye, Colleen and Linda. Sara was a hairdresser and owned her salon in her home.
She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in the Red Cross and taking care of her father-in-law until he passed away. Sara worked in the Boise LDS Temple and the German extraction center for seven years. She was an excellent homemaker and a great strength to all of her family. Her daughters adored her and had the greatest respect for her. In 1977, Dad retired from building construction and they moved to Nampa, where he built a new home for them. He passed away three years later and Mom stayed there until her health began to fail. Sara moved into Linda and Randy's home for the last 4 ½ years. She loved being around family and enjoyed her great-grandchildren next door who were frequent visitors. They always loved it when she would offer them candy while visiting. She especially loved to play Rook with her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Kaye (George) Alexander of Salt Lake City; Colleen (Larry) Henkensiefken of Waseca, MN; and Linda (Randy) Davis of Caldwell; Mom has one surviving brother, Milt Minor in Nampa; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Sara is preceded in death by her husband, parents, seven brothers and sisters, and one great-grandchild, Sara Elliott.
