Joan Marie (Block/Lueck) Julius was born January 18, 1938, in Nassau, MN. She was the daughter of Herman and Lorraine (Ehlebracht) Block. She was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Nassau, MN in 1939. As a young girl, Joan attended school in Nassau, MN. Upon her mother's death, she and her brother Jim were adopted on August 3, 1950, by William and Martha (Henkelmann) Lueck. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ortonville in 1956. Joan attended BigStoneCitySchool until the 11th grade. She received her GED at the age of 55 years in 1994.

Joan was united in marriage with Donald Julius on May 6, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Church. They were blessed with two children: Douglas and Donna.

Joan was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a Sunday School Teacher, music director, circle member and served in various offices. Joan, along with her husband, Don and brother-in-law, "Boots" owned and operated Julius Pure Oil for ten years. They operated Electrik Maid Bakery and Catering Service for 20 years and Jo Doni's Dairy Bar for five years. After retiring, Joan worked at Ortonville Area Health Services as a C.N.A., C.S. Technician and Purchasing Manager. During the time she was employed with O.A.H.S., she continued her education and became a N.R. EMT. She worked as an EMT for 12 years and Director of the Ortonville Ambulance Service for five years.

In her spare time, Joan enjoyed working on her yard, camping and spending time with her precious grandchildren. If you stopped for a cup of coffee at her home, you'd likely very often catch her baking cakes, cookies, donuts or fresh rolls to share with her family and friends.

Joan Julius is survived by her children: Douglas and wife Erin Julius of New Ulm, MN; Donna and husband Jerry Van Dyke of Chippewa Falls, WI; four grandchildren: Andrew Julius, Sean Julius, Lexi Raihle, and Trey Raihle; one sister: Lou and husband Carl Fricke of Hermiston, OR; a sister-in-law: Barbara Lueck of Weatherford, OK; a brother-in-law: Milo Hanzen of Inwood, IA; nieces, nephews, and her god children.
