Jay was born March 2, 1943, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, the son of Joseph and Dorothy McIlraith Holsen, and was married for 41 years to the love of his life, Maureen "Ann" McGrath.
Jay graduated from North High School, class of 1961 and the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1965, and then spent two years in the Philippines as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Jay entered the printing business in 1972 at a company in the Milwaukee area. He and Ann and their young family moved in 1978 to Moline where he worked at Desaulniers Printing Company. In 1995 he began employment at Graphic Image in Davenport, officially retiring in 2010 as general manager.
Survivors include his wife, Ann, and four daughters and one son, plus sons-in-law and one daughter-in-law: Sarah Holsen and Hendrik Knoche, Lausanne, Switzerland; Hans and Josine Holsen, Chicago; Laura Holsen and significant other, John Vrakas, Boston; Maria and Karl Mangold, Missoula, Montana; and Kate Holsen, Moline. He is also survived by two granddaughters: Nika Knoche, Lausanne; and Elena Mangold, Missoula; one brother: Joseph Holsen, South Pasadena, California; and three sisters-in-law: RaMona Holsen, Kohler, Wisconsin; Jan Holsen, Frankfort, Kentucky; and Mara Burns-Holsen, South Pasadena, California.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, James Holsen and Jack Holsen.
