Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Newton Christian Church with the Rev. Brad Harper officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery, Newton. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Crain Funeral Home, Newton, is in charge of arrangements.
Mabel was born on June 7, 1910, in Jasper County, the daughter of Ross and Lydia (Payne) Foltz. On October 26, 1929, Mabel married Cloyce D. Nichols. He preceded her in death on November 11, 1968.
In addition to being a homemaker and raising her children, the Nicholses owned and operated Newton Flower and Novelty Shop for many years. In later years, Mabel owned and operated Nichols Upholstery Shop until her retirement. She was a dedicated member of Newton Christian Church having much love for the church and her church family.
Mabel will be loved and remembered by her two sons, Robert D. Nichols and wife, Jaretta of Bethany and Kenneth Nichols and wife, Nancy of Yale; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Marjorie Foltz of Newton.
Her parents; husband; two daughters, Gladys Nichols and Maxine Diel; granddaughter, Jennifer Draves; brothers, John Foltz and Ross Foltz Jr.; and sisters, Zelma Marrs, Effie Foltz, Ida May Foltz and Lois Utley preceded her in death.
