Mary Ellen "Miney" Fissell Kline, 84, of Lexington, Va., passed away at home on January 23, 2011. Born on February 19, 1926, in Circleville, Ohio to the late George A. and Mary K. (Compton) Fissell. She is also pre-deceased by her brother, John F. Fissell and former husband, Thomas B. Harden. Survived by son, Ned R. (Jeannine) Harden, of Sandy, Utah; and daughter, Maryann Harden, of the home; grandchildren, Todd D. (Brittany) Kennedy, of New Orleans, La., Lindsay M. and Timothy T. Harden, of Sandy, Utah; and sister-in-law, Jean Fissell, of Circleville. Mary Ellen graduated from Circleville High School on D-Day 1944. She later married and the family moved to Fullerton, California in 1955. She was active in the schools, community and her job at the Surgery Clinic. In 1958, she and her husband were instrumental in the founding of Las Lomas Verde neighborhood swim club and attended its 50th anniversary celebration in 2009. She returned to Ohio in 1980 and served as the clerk of Circleville City Council for six years. After relocating to Lexington, Va. in 1992, she enthusiastically shared the local history as a travel counselor for 12 years with the Lexington Visitors Center. Mary Ellen also enjoyed all types of history, travel, and was a life-long, avid Cincinnati Reds baseball fan. Honoring her requests, there will be no visitation, funeral or memorial service. She and her family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Walter Kerschl and staff and to the Rockbridge Area Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to hospice or a charity of choice. Arrangements by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Va.
