Alfred Zak, age 89, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died October 6, 1998, at St. Otto's Center in Little Falls.
Funeral services were held October 8 at St. Otto's Care Center Chapel with Father Bernard Kahlhammer officiating. Burial was at Holy Family Catholic Church Cemetery in Bull Dog Lake.
Alfred was born December 1, 1908, to Walter and Annie (Schubert) Zak in Little Falls. He was united in marriage to Christine Hoheisel on November 27, 1935. They farmed in Aitkin County by Portage Lake in McGregor, MN. They had six children. In 1942, Alfred was classed Army Reserve Duty. He was sent to the Union Pacific Coal Company in Rock Springs, WY. Alfred returned back to the farm in late 1945 and did some work in the iron mines in northern MN. He also hada small wild rice business. He did a lot of hunting and trapping, Alfred liked the wooded outdoor country. In his trapping, he was a bit by a rabid mink and was infected with tularemia disease, which caused him to suffer for many years. He had spent several years at St. Otto's Care Center in Little Falls.
Survivors include his children, Sharon Enger, Dale Zak, and Carol Goranson; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Leo Zak of Hillman, MN; sisters, Louise Thommes of Lastrup, MN and Josephine Kainz of Harding, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Christine; children, Donna May, Joyce and Janette; one grandchild; brother, Pete Zak; and sister, Bertha (Zak) Kahlhamer.
