Herman died 6:10 p.m., Thursday, July 4, 1940 at the Veteran's Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, where he had been a patient for nearly a year. Funeral services were held at Dayton, Ohio, 9:00 a.m. Monday July 8, 1940 and burial was at the National Cemetery, Dayton, Ohio.
