GEORGE BAKER, SR. 90 years old, of Dumas, Arkansas, died March 4, 1999, at Delta Memorial Hospital.

George was born August 6, 1908, at Hamburg, Arkansas, he was a son of the late Alonzo and Mattie Baker.

He was a member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church at Pickens, Arkansas.

At the time of his death, he is survived by his wife, Selma Greenlaw Baker; three sons, the Reverend James Baker of Wichita, Kansas, Calvin Baker of Liberal, Kansas, and Herman Baker of Memphis, Tennessee; a daughter, Essie Witherspoon of Liberal; one brother, Jasper Phillips of Wilmot, Arkansas; five step-sons, Cleodis Smith of Nashville, Billy Ray Smith of Tucker, Leodis Smith of Jacksonville, Roy Lee Smith of Benton and Jerry Lee Smith of Murfreesboro; six stepdaughters, Georgia Washington of Oakland, California, Ocie Fisher and Mary Lee Daniels, both of Kansas City, Hattie Stovall and Bobbie Smith, both of Dumas, and Mable Smith of Pickens, Arkansas; 50 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at noon Thursday at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Pickens, Arkansas with the Reverend James Baker officiating the overflow crowd in attendance.

Burial will be at Curtis Hall Cemetery at Pickens, Arkansas by Brown Funeral Home of Dumas, Arkansas. +
