(b. January 25, 1907 Germany; March 24, 2000 Las Vegas, NV – Fairbanks Lawn Wall Estates) Dirscherl attended school for seven years and then went to work in a glass factory. When he was seventeen he was injured when a sliver of hot glass shot into one of his eyes. He left the glass factory and went to America, arriving in the country with only $5.00 to his name. Dirscherl moved to Pennsylvania and worked in coal mines then on to Wisconsin where he worked in a tool and dye factory and when wasn't at he job he was learning auto mechanics. He moved to Los Angeles and opened a service station ‘Melrose-Sweetzer Service' on the corner of Melrose and Sweetzer Avenues. The business was a great success and he renamed it ‘Challenger Motors.' The station had a number of famous customers: Tyrone Power, Gale Gordon, Carmen Miranda, Bob Hope and many more. Eventually he became known for his work on Citroen automobiles. When his lease ran out on ‘Challenger Motors,' he purchased a garage on Seward Street in Hollywood and continued running ‘Challenger Motors.' Dirscherl married Sieglinde Unger on January 25, 1942 in Las Vegas and during WWII they collected clothing and food to send to war torn Germany.
