The funeral services of the late Benjamin B. Edsell were held at his late home, 162 Center street, Ellenville on Wednesday afternoon; burial in the Ellenville cemetery. Services were conducted by the Rev. Dr. George R. Wright of the Methodist Church. Pall bearers were C. B. Freer, George B. Holmes, J. Martin Deschler, William Carman, Hubert Roat and Benjamin C. Sparks. The deceased was a native of Ellenville and during his entire life span, which he spent in that village a useful and respected citizen. He died of heart trouble at the home of daughter, Mrs. Eugene Slater, Monticello, on Saturday, July 13, after an illness lasting two weeks. Born April 10, 1859, the son of Lewis Edsell and his wife, Elizabeth Broas, he received his schooling in the Ellenville schools and then entered the employ of Dwight Divine and Sons. Later he was an employe of the Ellenville Glass Works. From there he became the New York agent of Hung and Donaldson, predecessors of the present firm of J. R. Hunt, Inc., serving as their New York representative until about 1901, when the Delaware and Hudson canal was discontinued and he returned to Ellenville, to again enter the employ of Dwight Divine and Sons, serving them in various responsible capacities since that time. The latter part of March, this year, he resigned his position as foreman of the material room there, due to failing eyesight and a general weakening of his usual health, giving up a little later his various lodge responsibilities and remained at home except for short visits with his children and their families. On January 27, 1887, Mr. Edsell was married to Jennie Melville of Ellenville of which union, besides the wife, three daughters survive, Ethel, wife of David Brundage and Nina, wife of William Holt, all of Elmira, N.Y., and Leota, wife of Eugene Slater of Monticello, and a grandson, Edsell Brundage. Two brothers, Lewis of Ellenville and Royal of Pelham Manor and three sisters, Mrs. Lewis Bernard of Yonkers, Bertha Edsell and Mrs. Fred Frear of Ellenville, also survive him. Mrs. Edsell resigned only recently as secretary of A__ing Lodge, Knights of Pythias, Ellenville, a position he had held for over 20 years. He was also a member of the American Mechanics and president of the Knife Shop Club, a benefit society.
