Oakley L. Edwards was a locomotive engineer for more than 40 years. His first locomotive job was for the Delaware and Hudson Railroad out of New York. He later was employed by the Southern Pacific Railroad Company.

Before retirement, Mr. Edwards was presented with his 40 years' service pin with honorary badge on June 8, 1954 by officers of the Grand International Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, Division 692, of Tracy.

A native of Moscow, Pennsylvania, he lived and worked in the easterly area of the country for most of his life. He came to California in 1942, and he and his wife settled in Columbia State Park in 1943.

He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and the Columbia Volunteer Fire Department.

On Christmas Eve, 1951, he and his wife celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary.

Mr. Edwards was survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth A. Edwards, of Columbia; a son, Ray H. Edwards of Northtown, Pennsylvania; a grandson, James Edwards of Northtown, Pennsylvania; a grandson, James Edwards, of Conshohoken, Pennsylvania, and a brother, Walter Edwards, of Pennsylvania.

Funeral services were held at the Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home in Sonora on a Tuesday afternoon. Two members of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers of Tracy and Reverend R. S. Bickford, of Shaws Flat officiated. Music and soloists was provided by members of the GIA, women's auxiliary of the BLE, of Tracy.
