Harland was the son of Oliver Andreas Hanson and Clara I (Stoiber) Hanson.
He was the youngest of six children with his siblings: Bernice, Howard N, Walter A, Clara M, Venita G, and Harland C Hanson.

Born at Tomah, Wisconsin March 29th, 1922. Confirmed his Baptismal Covenant at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Sparta, Wisconsin. 1936.
Graduated from Sparta High School , 1940
Was employed by the War Department, Washington , D.C. and the Railroad Retirement Board, Chicago , Illinois
SERVICE RECORD
After induction into the U.S. Army, March 17, 1943, he was assigned to the Medical Detachment of the 589th F.A. BN., and received training at Fort Jackson, S.C. ,Tennessee Maneuvers, and Camp Atterbury, Indiana.
Harland went overseas in October, 1944, and was in England, and France before going to Germany. He was taken prisoner of war on December 16, 1944 , and the War Department reported that he died March 31, 1944 at Duderstadt, Germany, a prisoner of war.
