OLPE - John A. Blaufuss, 61, Olpe, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, from injuries sustained in an accident in Emporia. Mass of Christian burial was 10 a.m. today at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Olpe, with the Rev. Tim Haberkorn and the Rev. Francis Wendling officiating.

He was born March 20, 1944, in Emporia, to William F. and Eleanor L. Brinkman Blaufuss.

He married Dorothy E. Wendling June 21, 1969, in Olpe. She survives.

He was controller at Emporia State University and was serving as the interim executive director of University Advancement. He began working at the university in January 1973. Before that he served as business manager at the College of Emporia and Saint Mary's Hospital, Emporia. He was an alumnus of Emporia State University, receiving a bachelor of science degree in accounting in 1967 and a master of business administration degree in 1990.

He was named the university's unclassified professional employee of the year in 2003. He was a member of the Tuition and Budget Committee, the President's Council, the Athletic Board of Control, the Memorial Union Board and was a former administrative representative on the Faculty Senate. He also was a member of the university's Foundation Board of Trustees and its finance committee.

He was a member of the Olpe Lions Club, the Olpe Knights of Columbus and Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Olpe, where he served as a Eucharistic minister, a member of the church choir and the church finance and liturgy committees. He also served on the USD 252 site-based council, the Mental Health Center of East Central Kansas board, the Presbyterian Manor board and was a member of the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce. He also belonged to the National Association of College and University Business Officers, Central Associaiton of College and University Business Officers, Regents Controllers Group, Regents Purchasing Group and the Agency STARS Rapport Association. He was a former adviser to Sigma Phi fraternity.

Interment will be in Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Olpe.

Survivors include his mother, Olpe; sons, John A. Blaufuss Jr., Frisco, Texas; and James M. Blaufuss, Derby; daughters, Michelle Barnhart, Olpe; Janell Blaufuss-Durham, Wichita; Lisa Hesse, Topeka; and Angela Blaufuss, Olpe; brothers, William F. Blaufuss Jr., Nashville, Tenn.; Jim Blaufuss, Lenexa; and Thomas Blaufuss, Overland Park; sisters, Mary Eleanor Baugh, Lenexa; Kathleen Scheve, Shawnee; Patricia Dunn, Lenexa; and Margaret Katzer, Ottawa; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1999.
