Former Sonora resident Della Red Lacy died Tuesday at Marshall Hospital in Placerville. She was 85.
Born in Joplin, Mo., to Arthur Zill and Lucile Red, she met her husband D Lacey at the logging camps in Crocker Station in 1941. They were married in Carson City, Nev., and spent their honeymoon at the Sonora Inn.
They lived in Vallejo before moving to Calaveras County. The couple lived throughout Tuolumne and Calaveras counties and had their three children in Sonora. They moved to Stockton in 1960.
She frequently returned to her class reunions at Columbia School.
Mrs. Lacy is survived by her brother, Jim and Rae June Red, of El Dorado County; children, Shirley Lacy, of Ione, Sandie and husband Bob Bylin, of El Dorado Hills, and Jack and wife Barbara Lacy, of Volcano; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, D Lacy; parents, Arthur Zill and Lucille Red; siblings, Evelyn Bender, Dixie Red and Jack Zill.
A funeral service is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. It will be followed by a graveside service at the Columbia Cemetery and then a celebration of life at the Sonora Inn's Rose Room.
