He was a native of Cherokee, IA. and a veteran of the Spanish American War: 49 Iowa Infantry, Company B; 1898. Upon his return from battle he married and had a son, also named Louis Irvin. Unfortunately, if family history is correct, he belatedly passed away in 1902 from either illness contracted or injury incurred during the war.
His young wife, Allie Robie Baumgardner soon remarried a Mr. Goodrich.
