Norman Louis Kiefer 80 passed away at Hamilton on August 31, 2005. Funeral services were held September 2 at St. John Lutheran Church in Hamilton with burial in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Kiefer was born December 9, 1924 at Winters, the son of the William H. Kiefer and Emma Haupt Kiefer.

He graduated from Winters High School in 1942 and on March 18, 1943 he entered active duty with the Army Air Force at Camp Wolters, Texas. He departed the United States for duty overseas in March of 1944 and saw action as an Army Air Force gunner in campaigns at Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and air offensive over Europe. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon with three bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal, Air Medal with three bronze clusters, one Overseas Bar and a Purple Heart for wounds he received in action over Hamburg, Germany on August 4, 1944.

At war end, Mr. Kiefer was released from the service and he entered the University of Texas where he became an avid supporter of the Longhorns. He was a member of the Longhorn band where he served as president in 1949.

He earned a degree as a pharmacist, a profession that he served the community of Hamilton for many years as owner of City Drug.

Mr. Kiefer was a longtime member of the Hamilton Lion's Club, served as board member and President of the Hamilton School Board, served on the Board of Directors of the First National Bank and a long time member of the Hamilton Fire Department. He also served on the board of directors of the Hamilton General Hospital.

On March 5, 1950 he was united in marriage to Laura Ruth Kelly. On January 12, 1982 he was joined in marriage to Tess Kelley McCown.

He is preceded in death by a sister, Lillie Templeton and a brother Albert Kiefer.

Survivors include his wife; four children, Karen Sue Kiefer, Norma Kay Zschiesche and her husband Jerry, Paula Kathleen Gould and her husband Sevens, two step-children James Kelley McCown and Robert Wallace McCown and his wife Laura; 10 grandchildren, Keri Roseberry and her husband Warren, Kenneth Cattles Jr. and his wife Bonnie, Kris Zschiesche and his wife Sarah, Katy Copeland and her husband Matt, Sierra Gould, Shea Gould, Morgan McCown, Kailee McCown, Natasha McCown, Sean McCown; one great grandchild Kalen Allese Copeland; four nieces and two nephews.

Pallbearers were Paul Winn, Keri Roseberry, Kris Zschiesche, Kenneth Cattles Jr., Katy Copeland, Sierra Gould, Shea Gould, Warren Roseberry, Matt Copeland, Bonnie Cattles and Sarah Zschiesche.

Honorary Pallbearers were Dr.Mark Crouch, Dr. N.C. Crouch, Bert Schrank, Milton Harelik, Ramon Haile, Jimmy Payne, Bob Gautier and Andy McMullen.
