Ailey was buried on a mountain spur half a mile from the Cole Cemetery in Whitewood, Buchanan County, Virginia. She came from North Carolina to Virginia along with her husband Lorenzo Dow Cole, Sally Baker, and Loggins Woody.

DNA tests were taken with three different DNA sites and all three tests show no Native American ethnicities. Additionally, the other DNA matches who descend from Ailey and her mother Sally Baker show no ethnicities of Native American either. According to the DNA, their ancestors are all European. Hopefully additional DNA research will also lead to finding out who Ailey's father was.

Ailey was said to be known as "Running Fawn" and her father has been listed as Nasomsee Gamesett Black Hawk, also known as Black Hawk Jr., who was the son of Chief Black Hawk. It is not known where the name "Running Fawn" originated or whether she was ever known by that name. No one in our family had ever heard of the name "Running Fawn" until it popped up for the first time in 2016.

Note: Please do not send edit requests unless you have actual proof for making the change. Ailey's memorial has been like a very long, constant game of ping pong. There have been so many requests to change her name, date of birth, date of death, and her father's name. I have not been able to locate any records with her actual birthdate and date of death. Her birthdate has been listed as November 27, 1820, and her date of death has been listed as January 23, 1886 and as January 23, 1894.
