MILTON - Howard Joseph Halnon, 61, a gentle soul who brought happiness to everyone that knew him, passed away at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2011 after a very brief illness, surrounded by many who loved him.

Howie was born on June 10, 1949, the son of Francis and Ruth (Roberts) Halnon.

Howie loved making people laugh, watching westerns, and listening to and playing music. He often said "Wanna Box?" and enjoyed blowing kisses. After eating a large dinner and asked if he wanted to go for a walk, he inevitably replied "Not Me!"

Howie is survived by his brothers, Paul and wife Phyllis of Valdosta, Ga., and George and wife Mary of Colchester; his sisters-inlaw, Katie Halnon of Schenectady, N.Y., and Cathy Halnon of Colchester. He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and greatnephews, and cousins, as well as his "special" family, Kevin and Cindy Cook and Jessica Cook, who provided a warm and loving home for him for many years.

He was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Ruth Halnon; his sister, Anne Thibodeau, her husband Martin; and his brothers, Robert and Raymond Halnon.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, Feb. 14, 2011 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St. in Winooski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Church Road in Colchester.

Interment will be in the East Cemetery in Williston in the spring.
