Mrs Caroline Schaefer Mennewisch, age 79 years, died this morning at her home, 1236 Francis street, death being due to the infirmities of age. The deceased had been in ill health for the past three months.
Mrs Mennewisch was born in Germany in 1844 and came to this country with her first husband, Gottlieb Schaefer in 1875. Following Mr Schaefer's death about 38 years ago, Mrs Mennewisch was united in marriage with Fred Mennewisch, whose death occurred 12 years ago. Mrs Mennewisch was a member of the St Pauls Lutheran church and the Ladies Aid society of that congregation. She was the last surviving member of a family of nine children.
Surviving relatives include five children, Mrs William H Axt and Mrs Peter G Lepper of this city, George G Schaefer of Morgantwon W Va and William H and Charles Schaefer of this city. Fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive. Fort Wayne News Sentinel – February 20, 1923
