Vernon Stottlemyre, 95, of Mabton died Wednesday.

Mr. Stottlemyre was born in Licking, Mo. In 1954, he moved with his family to Mabton, where he worked as a pipefitter, traveling to various construction sites in the Northwest and Alaska.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Lawrence of Logan, N.M.; two sons, Mel Stottlemyre of Seattle and Jeff Stottlemyre of Naches; 12 grandchildren and numerous great- grandchildren.

Viewing and visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Mabton cemetery.

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend Vernon
"Vern" Stottlemyre, 95, longtime Mabton resident passed away on Wednesday,
February 16, 2011 at Mountain Vista Nursing Home in Toppenish, WA. Vernon was
born on Feb. 5, 1916 in Licking, Missouri the son of J. Frank and Ora (Campbell)
Stottlemyre. In 1937 he married Lorene Ellen Miles in Texas County, Missouri and
following their marriage they made their home in Hazelton, Missouri and later
Portland, Oregon. The Stottlemyre's later moved to Albany, OR where Lorene and
Vern owned and operated a restaurant for three years before moving to South
Carolina where Vern worked on the Savannah River Project. In 1954 the family
moved to Mabton where Vern worked as a pipefitter at various construction sites
in the Northwest and Alaska. He was a member of the Baptist Church and also a
member of Local 598. Vern enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and sports and was
so proud to watch his sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren participate in
sporting activities, from Pee Wee League to the Professional Baseball League.
Vern loved all animals, dogs, cats and especially watching and feeding the
squirrels. He is survived by one daughter Joyce Lawrence of Logan, New Mexico.
Two sons Mel Stottlemyre and wife Jean of Seattle, WA, Jeff Stottlemyre and
wife, Ellen of Naches, WA. Twelve grandchildren, Mel Stottlemyre Jr., Todd
Stottlemyre, Keith Stottlemyre Jr., Kent Stottlemyre, Kevin Stottlemyre, Sonya
Stottlemyre, Loretta Finch, Mark Lawrence, Ray Lawrence, Roy Neal Lawrence, Ryan
Stottlemyre and Haley Stottlemyre and a number of great grandchildren. He is
preceded in death by wife, Lorene Stottlemyre in 1994, an infant daughter Ruby
Faye Stottlemyre, one son, Keith Stottlemyre, a grandson Jason Stottlemyre and 2
brothers and 3 sisters. Viewing and visitation will be held on Tuesday, February
22, 2011 from Noon until 7:00 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside, WA.
Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at
the Mabton Cemetery under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home LTD.
