TABLE ROCK ARGUS, March 28, 1063. (pg.2)

OBITUARY- JOSEPH P. REUTER

Joseph Peter Reuter, youngest son of Joseph and Mary Reuter, was born May 25, 1876, on the Reuter homestead northeast of Table Rock, Nebr. Here he grew to manhood and spent his entire life with the exception of five and one half years when he and his wife lived in Table Rock.

He was baptized in infancy and was a lifetime member of St. John's Catholic Church, attending church as long as he was able.

He received his education at the little country school nearby and was engaged in farming and livestock-raising until his retirement.

On April 23, 1901, he was united in marriage to Bertha Clara Wenzl at the Catholic Church in Steinauer. They were privileged to share the joys and sorrows together for almost 61 years.

They had no children of their own but when his brother's wife died, leaving behind her infant son, Arthur, who was only five months old, they took him into their home and loved and cared for him as if he had been one of their own.

After the death of his faithful wife on January 25, 1962, he came back to his old home on the farm and lived with his nephew, Arthur and wife, until he became ill on March 8, 1963, when he entered the Pawnee County Hospital, suffering with a heart condition. He remained here until March 15 when upon the advice of his doctor, he was transferred to the Kline Nursing Home so that he would be nearby in case he needed a doctor. Here he passed away shortly before noon March 21, 1963. Death was attributed to a heart attack.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, four brothers and a sister.

He leaves to mourn his departure his nephew and foster-son, Arthur and his wife Christine; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Julianna Hays of Steinauer; many nieces and nephews and a great number of friends.

Funeral services were conducted March 25th in St. John's Catholic Church in Table Rock with Father Joseph A. Keany officiating and burial was in St. John's cemetery northeast of Table Rock near the Reuter farm.

Pallbearers were Charles Wenzl, Albert Miller, Wilber Branek, Arthur Vrtiska, Robert Stillinger and John Deubelbeiss.
