Colby Cady Tupper was born January 7, 1832, in Eldred, PA, the son of William Tupper and Jerusha Knapp.
"In 1862, he enlisted in the Bucktails, 150th PA Regiment, and was with that unit in every battle until he was wounded at Gettysburg in 1863. After partially recovering from his wound, Corporal Tupper was detailed for service in Washington, D.C., and was on duty near where John Wilkes Booth shot President Lincoln at Ford's Theater on April 14, 1865.
