Norma Gobber, 81, of Auburn, formerly Elk Creek, passed away Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn. She was born June 13, 1929 near Humboldt on the family farm She was baptized July 14, 1929 and confirmed Sept. 10, 1944 both at St. James Lutheran Church(Long Branch).
Her parents:Edwin Frank and Luella (Grable) Volker
She was united in marriage on Nov. 9, 1950 to Raymond Dietrich Gobber at St. James Lutheran Church, rural Humboldt, Nemaha, NE. They were blessed with two daughters, Wanda and Sharlotte.
They lived most their married lives on a farm near Elk Creek, NE.
She was a lifelong member of St.James Lutheran Church. Her husband Raymond suffered a stroke in 2000 and was in the Good Samaritan Home in Auburn, NE. He passed away on May 13, 2010.
She became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn, NE. in Aug. of 2010. and admitted to the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn where she passed away.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Raymond, also grandson Erik Veburg, sister Arleen Knippelmeyer, and brothers-in-law Emil Bohling, Eugene Gottula, and Lyle Forrest.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and David Grothen of Lincoln, Sharlotte and Gene Veburg of Lincoln; four grandchildren;Kara Grothen, Tracey Grothen-Maly and husband Brett Maly, Emily Steinhoff and husband Bradley, and Mike Veburg, two great-grandchildren;Brandon and Kelsey Steinhoff. sister Elvera Bohling of Tecumseh; brother-in-law Walt Knippelmeyer, Orville and wife Erma Gobber of KS. Robert and wife Vicky Gobber of NE. Sister-in-law Ilma Gottula, Eldonna Forrest of NE. and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 23 at St. James Lutheran (Long Branch) Church near Humboldt. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home in Auburn Monday 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., with family greeting friends Tuesday 6 to 8. Memorials are suggested to St. James Lutheran Church or Lutheran World Relief. Pallbearers were: Eric Veburg, Bradley Steinhoff, Brett Maly, Larry Bohling, Lavon Knippelmeyer, and Mark Bohling. Services are entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
