Carl Matthies Dies, Funeral Is Wednesday
Carl Frederick Matthies, 73, of New Richland, died Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Naeve hospital, Albert Lea. Cause of his death was cancer.
Mr. Matthies was born Sept. 5, 1881 in Freeborn county, son of Mr. and Mrs. August and Wilhelmina Matthies.
Mr. Matthies was married to Bertha Halverson on February 5, 1903 in St. Peter's church, New Richland.
Surviving are four daughters: Mrs Carl (Cora) Helland of Hayward, Mrs. Ole (Ella) Schjei of Branden, Mrs. Richard Evenson, San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Sidney Johnson of New Richland, also five sons: Otto Matthies, Waseca; Fred and Orville, New Richland; Ralph, of San Diego, Calif., and Carl of Freeborn.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran church, with Rev. J. C. Walledom, New Richland, officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's cemetery.
Pall bearers will be Arthur Stensrud, August Jeddeloh, Selmer Gulbrandson, Olaf Erickson, Burnith Hanson and Harley Norby, all of New Richland.
