Obituary: Prominent Vinemont resident Dies at Home. Funeral services were conducted at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Wednesday, April 11, at 2 p.m., for L.P. Whaley, pioneer resident of Cullman County, and a minister for thirty five years Church of Christ. Services were conducted by ministers Lindsay Allen and George Brown. Interment was in adjoining cemetery with Moss-Service directing. Mr. Whaley was born at Bangor on November 27, 1871, the son of Dr and Mrs J.P. Whaley. Dr Whaley was a widely known pioneer medical doctor in Blount and Cullman counties. After an illness for seventeen years, and being seriously ill for the past year, Mr. Whaley died at his home in Vinemont, last Tuesday at 12:05 a.m. He is survived by his widow Mary Elizabeth Allred Whaley of Hanceville, whom he married May 19, 1889. Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. T. C. Thomason, Bainbridge, Ga, Mrs. Edna Gibson, Gadsden, and Ruth Brown, Bay Minnette; three sons John L, Birmingham, Herman C, Fort Devens, Mass, and Kelton Whaley, Vinemont. Also sixteen grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren survive. Pallbearers were W.A. Lovelady and W.A. Pannell, and four grandsons, David Petty, Francis Garrett, Hubert Livingston and W.A. His mother, Susan B. McAnally Whaley, 1848-1932 is said to be buried at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Cullman, AL. [ I have been unsuccessful locating the cemetery and burial ;-( ]
