LaGrange Grid Player Dies of Injuries
Daniel Paul Estaville, 16, injured in a football scrimmage session exactly one week before, died at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Carswell AFB hospital at Fort Worth, Texas. His death is believed to be the first among high school athletes in Lake Charles.
His body was returned to Lake Charles at 4 a.m. today and was to be in the Burke-Hammer funeral home chapel at noon today. Rosaries will be recited at 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. today in the Burke-Hammer funeral home chapel. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday from the funeral home and at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Msgr. Irving A. DeBlanc. pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Magnolia cemetery at Ragley.
The youth was injured in a practice session on the LaGrange football field on Tuesday of last week. He was playing a defensive end position against the varsity. Doctors said that his spinal injury was of the same nature as that received when diving into a shallow pool. After treatment here, he was transferred Monday to the Air Force hospital at Fort Worth for neurosurgery.
Me was born in Los Angeles, Calif. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Ernest Estaville of 302B Ernest street. His father is a former Air Force officer and is now public education director for the Calcasieu-Lake Charles Health Unit.
Other survivors are three brothers, Ben Richey, Jerry George and Lawrence E. Estaville, Jr.; one sister, Elizabeth Rose Estaville; and his grandmothers, Mrs. D. W. Richey of Ragley and Mrs. Frances Estaville of Los Angeles.
