Raymond "Barney" Mewes, 82, of rural Bone Gap, died at 1:40 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at Meadowood Nursing Home in Grayville.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ingram Funeral Home in West Salem. Burial will be in Little Wabash Cemetery, west of West Salem. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mewes was born June 29, 1915, in Edwards County, the son of Otto and Elizabeth (Knackmuhs) Mewes. He married Lucille Huchel Feb. 12, 1938 in Olney.
He was a farmer and upholsterer for over 20 years., He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church and a state champion checker player.
He is survived by his wife; one son, John Mewes and his wife, Shirley, of Bone Gap; and one grandchild, Mark Mewes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Edna Harris, and eight brothers, Harry, Chester, Lester, Kermit, William, Herbert, Fredrick and Phillip.
