Sgt. Ernest J. Bohman, 24, with a tank unit of the American Fifth Army in Italy, was killed in action May 27, presumably in the Anzio sector, according to a terse message from the adjutant general received by the
soldier's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bohman of near Osgood, Tuesday afternoon. Receipt of the message by the Bohman family marked the third time an Osgood community couple has received this grim notice from the War Department. Pfc. Edward H. Hoelscher was the first to pay the supreme sacrifice, March 31, 1943, in North Africa. Lt. Walter A. Reichert was the second. His death occurred in Italy May 19. Sgt. Bohman entered the Army March 29, 1941. He trained at Ft. Knox, Ky.; Ft. Benning, Ga.; Ft. Jackson, S.C. and Camp Gordon, S.C. He went overseas in January, 1943, first arriving in Africa. In October, 1943
he was sent to Italy. Sgt. Bohman took part in the Battle for Bizerte in Africa, and was hospitalized ten weeks as the result of wounds received there. Born on the Bohman farm a quarter-mile west of Osgood, June 25, 1919, he was a son of Joseph and Catherine Ernst Bohman. He attended the elementary schools of his home community and before
entering the Army was employed at the Bohman hardware store. Surviving are the parents and the following brothers and sisters: Paul Bohman, Y-1c, at naval air base in England; Richard and Miss Florence Bohman, Dayton; Ralph Bohman and Misses Oneta and Joan Bohman at home. Memorial services are planned for Monday morning in Osgood. Rev. Louis M. Bergheger will be celebrant of a solemn high mass in St. Nicholas church at 9:30 a.m. Following this, American Legionnaires of the Versailles
and North Star posts will conduct the Legion military ritual on the church grounds. The soldier was a member of the St. Nicholas church in Osgood and was enrolled in the Versailles council, Knights of Columbus.
