Former longtime Palmer resident Fred F. Everett, 76, died Oct. 3, 1997, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Battle Creek, Mich. A graveside memorial service was held Oct. 11 at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in East Jordan, Mich. The Rev. William McKeon officiated.
Mr. Everett was born May 3, 1921, in Detroit, to Maye and Fred Everett Sr. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On June 15, 1960, he married Dolores Pommier in Anchorage. He and his wife homesteaded at Goat Creek Garage in Palmer in 1947 and left the state during the late '60s. He owned Everett Motors in Palmer. Mr. Everett lived in East Jordan for the past 29 years. He retired from Gulf & Western Stamping Co., now known as Dura, in East Jordan in July 1983. Mr. Everett was a member of American Legion Post 227, Hosler-Rebec-Sweet Lodge, in East Jordan. He enjoyed motorcycles and cars.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores Everett of East Jordan; five children, Judith Hilke of Lihue, Hawaii, Roger Everett of Anchorage, Starr Roan of Fremont, Larry Everett of St. Charles, Mo., and Maria Everett of East Jordan; three grandchildren, Jason Philip Snyder of Fremont, Gaylen Scott Hilke of Kauai, Hawaii, and Sheri and her husband, Donald Pestka of Oregon; and four great-grandchildren, Brandy, Kailey, Chyann and Kyle Pestka. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ruth Hizelberger Everett; brother, Mason Everett; and sister, Carol Hizelberger. Memorials may be sent to any branch of the Alzheimer's Association.
