The passing of Peter Seeck last Monday evening marked the close of a long and busy life of one of Benton County's most highly respected Pioneers. Mr. Seeck had been in failing health for some time but it was not until Sunday that those close to him believed the end was drawing near, and the two sons residing in Oregon were immediately sent for. Death came about 1:00 Monday evening.

Peter Mathies Seeck, a son of Thies and Margaretha Lahanne Seeck, was born at Voerden Sueder, Ditmarchen Germany, Jan. 6, 1837, and died at his home in Keystone Nov. 6, 1916, at age 79 years 10 months. In 1858, having attained his majority, he came to America settled in Davenport and, 10 years later, he removed to Benton County where he continued to reside until the time of his death. On Jan. 20, 1871, he was married at Vinton to Christine Meyer, who with 4 sons, G.H and P.F. Seeck of Keystone, F.W. Seeck of Lebanon Ore., and H.J. Seeck of Carnation, Ore., survive the husband and father. One daughter, Lena, died some years ago. He is also survived by 1 brother and 3 sisters.

On April 23, 1862, Mr Seeck enlisted as a private in Co. L, 4th Regiment, Missouri Volunteers, at St. Louis and served a 3 month enlistment with that organization. On Aug. 12, 1861, very shortly after the expiration of his enlistment he re-enlisted and was chosen corporal of Co. E, 27th Missouri Volunteer Infantry, and served with honor until his final discharge 3 years later on Sept. 17, 1864. During his service he paricipated in the battles of Pea Ridge, Arkansas, Vicksburg, Chattanooga, Kingston, Atlanta and many others. He was a member of Sherman's famous army in the march from Atlanta to the sea.

Funeral Services will be held tomorrow, Friday, at the house at 1:30 and at the German Lutheran Church at 2 o'clock p.m. The services being in charge of Rev. Franke. Interment will be made at the Keystone Cemetery.
