HOLYOKE - Maria C. (Ripa) Ramondetta, 97,of Holyoke, died on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Loomis House. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late Vincent and Petrina (Faracci) Ripa and graduated from Holyoke High School. Maria was a United States Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II. She had been employed as an administrative assistant for the Holyoke School System for ten years, and had also worked in the social work department of Holyoke Nursing Home. Maria was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church, where she sang in the church choir, and was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Women's Club. She also volunteered for many years on various political campaigns, and worked at municipal election sites. Maria was the widow of Maurice J. Ramondetta, who died in 1964. She is survived by five children: Marianne Heusler and her husband Joel of NY City, Martha Ramondetta and her husband Thomas Sullivan of Southampton, Joseph Ramondetta of Holyoke, Elizabeth "Betsy" Saykin and her husband Richard of Holyoke, and James "Jim" Ramondetta of Lee, seven grandchildren: Maxim, Aaron, Samara, Karli, Rebecca, Emily, and Benjamin, a brother-in-law, Fred Ramondetta of Holyoke, a sister-in-law Mary Ripa of Holyoke, and many nieces and nephews. Maria was predeceased by three brothers: Samuel, Louis, and Thomas Ripa. The funeral will be held Thursday morning at 9:00 from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, followed by a Mass in Blessed Sacrament Church at 10:00. Burial will be in Saint Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105
