Gerhard Johann Gustav was born to Rev. Theopold and Emilie (Teske). His father was a German Lutheran Church pastor and, thus, the family moved to various areas. According to the obituary for Jerry's mother, Rev. Krueger was a pastor in Madelia, Minnesota before going to Faribault, Minnesota for many years. In 1902, the family moved to Melrose, Minnesota where Rev. Krueger became pastor of the local German Lutheran Church. Sadly, Mrs. Krueger died here on September 7, 1903 after giving birth to her 5th child. Jerry married Emma Barchenger on May 22, 1919 in Center, North Dakota. I believe the couple spent a number of years in North Dakota as Emma's family had gone to Oliver County during the early 1900s to seek opportunities. When World War II began, Jerry and Emma moved to St. Paul, Minnesota along with Emma's sister and brother-in-law, Hubert and Christine (Barchenger) Flint. Jerry was fortunate to become employed with Northwest Airlines as a shipping clerk. Eventually, the couple lived at 1436 Almond Avenue for many years until Jerry's death. Jerry was one of the favorite grand uncles of our family. He came to visit many times and our family went to visit them before and after Emma's death. He was a delightful person and well-loved by everyone. Often, he was called on to translate German words which came up at his job. He did not ever drive a car while we knew him. The funeral took place in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, (Midway area), St. Paul, Minnesota and burial on June 28, 1972. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma, on August 18, 1957.
