DONAHUE, Iowa — Helen Jane Keppy, 88, a longtime resident of Donahue, Iowa, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at Manor Care Utica Ridge in Davenport. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at Faith Lutheran Church in Eldridge, Iowa. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Allens Grove Cemetery in Donahue. Contributions in her memory may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, the Donahue Volunteer Fire Department or to Grand Haven Retirement Community in Eldridge. Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Helen was born February 3, 1921, in rural Scott County, Iowa, the daughter of Edwin A. and Frances (Frye) Rochau. She was a 1939 graduate of Davenport High School. On April 19, 1942, she was united in marriage to Erwen L. Bud Keppy on their family farm near Davenport. Bud preceded her in death on February 25, 1994.
Bud and Helen owned and operated Keppy's General Store in Donahue for many years. She enjoyed traveling, her card clubs, socializing with friends and spending time with her family.
Her memberships included Woodmen Circle of the World, the Scott County Farm Bureau and the Golden Anniversary Club, where she had previously served as president.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters and sons-in-law, Gayle and Larry Jennings, of South Bend, Ind., and Pamela and John Pischke of DeWitt, Iowa; her son and daughter-in-law, David and Char Keppy, of Donahue; her grandchildren, Brian Keppy, Todd Keppy, Tracy Griffin, Angela Horsfield, Randall Pischke and Mark Pischke; nine great-grandchildren; her sister and brother-in-law, Joan and David Miller, of Florida; her sister-in-law, Margery Rochau, of Eldridge; and 10 nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Bud, Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Eugene Rochau, and her daughter-in-law, Charlotte (Gusta) Keppy.
