John E. "Jack" Beranek, 76, of Raymond, passed away at BryanLGH Medical Center West on Sunday (3-20-11). He was born to Jerry and Isabel (Hermance) Beranek on October 16, 1934, at Raymond. A graduate of Raymond High School, he had a great athletic ability and participated in baseball, basketball and track and was an avid sports fan. He served in the Army from 1957-59. In 1959, he and Shirley Nissen were married. They had two sons, Lee born June 30, 1964 and Joe born February 28, 1966. Jack coached Little Chiefs and Pre-midget baseball teams. He retired from Goodyear in 1997 after working there for 42 years. Previous to working at Goodyear, he had worked at Capital Bridge and Burlington Railroad. In retirement he enjoyed working outdoors, walking his dog, Missy, and attending UNL baseball games. On Thursday mornings, he joined other fellow Goodyear retirees for an early breakfast. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Jack is survived by his wife, Shirley; sons and spouse, Lee of Raymond, Joe and Angela of Lincoln; grandchildren and spouse, Anh and Michael McClure, of Pendleton, Ind., and Michael Nguyen of Lincoln; great grandchildren, Anara and Hayden McClure, Shaielinh and Isabella Nguyen; brother and sister-in-law, Arvid and Minerva Beranek of Lincoln; sisters-in-law, Reba Beranek of Lincoln and Karen Beranek; brother-in-law, Everett Nissen of Raymond; sister-in-law and spouse, Mary and Larry Hardesty of Raymond; nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Harold (Pete) and William (Bill); parents-in-law Christoph and Elizabeth Nissen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Ethel and John Maw, Robert and Cathy Nissen, Marjorie Nissen.

Funeral Service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday (3-26-11) Raymond United Methodist Church, 14750 N. 3rd Street. Pastor Rod Lyon, officiating. Burial in Oak Creek Cemetery, Raymond. Visitation: 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday with family greeting friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Roper and Sons, 4300 'O' Street and one hour prior to service time at the church. Memorials to Oak Creek Cemetery Association, Raymond United Methodist Church, American Lung Association or Arthritis Foundation. Arrangements by Roper and Sons Funeral Services.
