HOLTON --- J. Jerome "Jerry" Mulroy, 91, Holton, died Monday, April 15, 2002, at a Holton nursing home.
Mr. Mulroy was a farmer and stockman and later was a substitute rural letter carrier at Goff for many years. He began farming near Olpe and moved to Nemaha County in 1935. He retired in 1981.
He was born Oct. 8, 1910, in Maydale, Kansas, the son of John E. and Anna M. Redinger Mulroy.
He earned the Eagle Scout Award and graduated from high school in McAllister, Okla., in 1928. He moved to Holton in 1983. Mr. Mulroy was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church. He also was a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 4219, both in Holton. He was a member of Goff Lions Club and Goff Commercial Club, and he had been a leader for the Rustlers 4-H Club at Goff. He was active in a square dance club.
He married Geraldine Marie Driscoll on Feb. 2, 1931, in McAllister, Okla. She died June 11, 1981. He married Rita McAsey on Dec. 27, 1982, in Holton. She died Nov. 5, 1983. He married Marie Nolte Wessel on Nov. 24, 1984, in Holton. She survives.
Other survivors include five sons, Eldon Mulroy, Goff, Eugene Mulroy, Yakima, Wash., Rich Mulroy, Holton, Robert Mulroy, Loveland, Colo., and Pat Mulroy, Mayetta; a daughter, Alice A. Macke, Seneca; eight stepsons, Kenneth Wessel and Leo Wessel, both of Goff, Lester Wessel, Topeka, Maurice Wessel, Maple Hill, David Wessel and Roger McAsey, both of Holton, Marvin Wessel, Leavenworth, and Bill McAsey, Circleville; four stepdaughters, Mary Wentz, Indianapolis, Alice Riley and Judy Arnold, both of Topeka, and Grace Bowser, Holton; 22 grandchildren; 31 stepgrandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 21 stepgreat-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Dominic Catholic Church. Burial will be in Wetmore Cemetery.
