A resident and native of Baton Rouge, she died at 6 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at the age of 85. Visiting at Antioch Baptist Church on Saturday, March 11, from 8 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Levert Kemp. Interment in Stockade Cemetery. She is survived by two daughters, Annie Battieste and Lillie Battieste, both of Baton Rouge; four sons and three daughters-in-law, James and Estella Battieste, Compton, Calif., John and Jackie Battieste, Anaheim, Calif., and Harold and Russia Battieste, and Clifton Battieste, all of Baton Rouge; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Lemuel Bassett, Bunkie, and Wilbert and Juanita Bassett, Galveston, Texas; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers, three sisters, an aunt and a grandson. Capital Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
