Erika was born in Schmolln, Germany
in 1939. Her father, Rudolf Erler,
disappeared in WWII when she was only
four years old and she never heard from
him since. Erika escaped East Germany in
1954 at age 15 and went as far West as
possible.
Erika, a sentimentalist, enjoyed
her family and friends, her dogs, the joys
and beauties of the outdoors, gardening,
cooking, and decorating. She could play
the accordion. Erika attended Catholic
church and was a volunteer for her local
fire department ladies' auxiliary. She
enjoyed being a seamstress like her mother.
